Whatever one thinks about models of university funding, it was interesting this afternoon to watch a Prime Minister doing a speech and Q+A which was being broadcast live (on the BBC News Channel); and to hear him refer to one of his government ministers, who was present, by his nickname ("Two Brains").
Is this a first? Did Blair as PM ever talk about "Mandy"? Or Macmillan about "Rab"? Or Asquith about "The Goat"?
Certainly the first PM ever to refer (and positively) to his wife being a polytechnic graduate. (Bristol, if you are asking.)
Slightly more seriously, I was indeed impressed by him.
